Monthly Update: What we are doing in Accounter?

While some of you are enjoying the Holiday Season, here is what we are trying to do in Accounter.

Accounter on IPhone, IPad, Android, Blackberry, WP7

With the latest release of Accounter we have support for Accounter on mobile devices. As of now Accounter is live in Mobile stores for IPhone, BlackBerry and Android.
One of the great thing about Accounter on Mobile is that it is full featured unlike many other mobile accounting software. What ever you can do on main software can be done in Mobile version.
Here are the screenshots from the above devices.

Accounter in your language

Finally Accounter is ready for handling many other languages with its built in Translation tool. You can use it by going to Settings->Translation and select the language you want to help translate to.

Each message in Accounter will be displayed in that view, and you can translate them into your own language.

What it takes to see your own contributions? Just refresh/relogin and you will see all your contributions already applied.

Messages will be approved based on votes by other people. Once approved every one using that language will get them. But you can continue to use your contributions even if they are not approved.

Multi-currency, Inventory Tracking and many more

A major update of Accounter is released with lot of new features. Here are the list of some of the major features.

  • Multi-Currency Transactions
    Now you can do transactions in any currency and let you provide the conversion factor to convert the amount into base currency for your accounting.
  • Select primary currency of the company
    Usually this is done when the company is created. For existing users currency is selected automatically based on your country.
  • Currency Symbols
    Now you can see your currency symbol along with all amounts in the Accounter.
  • Inventory Items
    Along with Non-Inventory Products and Services that we are supporting till now, now you can add Inventory enabled product also. Using this you can keep track of how many products you have in hand.
  • Warehouse Tracking
    Now you can have multiple warehouses to keep your products into, and when doing transactions you can specify from/into which warehouse you need to make the change.
  • Stock Adjustment
    Adjust your stock in your warehouses for adding and removing items.
  • Stock Transfer
    Transfer items between warehouses.
  • Credits & Charges
    You can enable delayed charges and bill your customer for charges you have spent for their work. You can use Charges in your Invoices, instead of re-entry of all details again. You can also create Credits which can be offset when used in Invoice.
  • Billable Charges
    Categorize your bill amounts for customers to create charges automatically when you enter bills into your system.
  • TDS tracking for Indian users
    Now you can specify which vendors needs to be under TDS and specify the rate while entering bills or writing checks. You can also prepare TDS filing and payment.
  • Generic TAX System
    We understand the needs of different countries for different TAX systems. We made Accounter generic enough to support any kind of tax system we came to know.
  • Discounts on per transaction or per detail line
    Now you can specify the discounts either on per transaction basis or per detail line.
  • Login with Facebook, Google, Yahoo
    Now you do not need to remember Accounter password. Just click login with Google, Facebook, Yahoo and AOL buttons on the login page to enabled those sites authenticate your for us. If you make it to remember, all it takes is one click to login now.

Other than these there are more than 200+ of bug fixes and small improvements.

Bookkeeping Service from Accounter

We know how time consuming the process of Bookkeeping even with much easy software like Accounter.

As an added advantage for users of Accounter we want to offer bookkeeping service for our users. Don’t worry about uploading all your data, and maintaining. You just send your work to us. Our dedicated Bookkeeping team will upload the data to Accounter, and you just use the reports you need.

As an initial trial we are giving this for free to all our Accounter users upto 31st Dec 2011. So hurry up, signup and send your data to bookkeeping@accounterlive.com

Here is the information we need from you for this service.

  • Add bookkeeping@accounterlive.com user as Finance Admin in your company.
    Accounter->Settings->Users->Invite User
  • Send details of the work in mail to us bookkeeping@accounterlive.com along with all files that are needed.
    Excel Files, Customers List,  Scanned Copies of Bills, Invoices or any document that needs to be uploaded.
  • We need you to clarify any doubts our team may get regarding the data. Usually very small questions.

If the initial trial is success, we plan to offer this service for free to all users for one month after signup. And later it will be paid. But the cost of the service will be determined based on our initial trial. (It will be <6 USD per hour for sure).

Why should we use Online Accounting Software?

I am going to provide this explanation not based the fact that Accounter is an online accounting software, but I am going to provide explanation based on the reasons of why we made this software online and what we think are the advantages of Online Accounting Software compared to Offline Accounting Software.

The reasons of why we build this accounting software, I will explain in some other time, but for now I will stick with the reasons of why we made if Online software than an Offline version.

Advantages of Online Software over Offline Software

  • No need to install anything
  • Can start using within a min of deciding to use it. No need to wait for IT person to do the installation etc.
  • Every one know how to use a web browser. And for most of the people using web is much easy then special native software.
  • Users can access their data from any system connected to net in the world. This is the biggest advantage of using Online services. None of the Offline software I have seen have this capability of synchronizing data from multiple systems. (Except for www.bizantra.com)
  • Most of other offline software have limitations on how to make more than one user use the software. Some need IT expert to setup the multi user versions. Where as online systems can handle any number of users at same time.
  • Software updates? Let the developers worry about it. Do you know how many Quickbooks software versions exist? Every time we update, we need to spend time on making sure that our data is safe, if we should upgrade or not, and lot of other issues.

    Online software on the other hand does not need anything from user to upgrade. All software will be upgraded automatically without any human intervention. Reported bugs? No need to wait for next release, bugs fixes can be released in matter of days.

  • Updates to Tax rates? Govt rules etc? It is very easy for online system to make changes to those external events than an offline software.
  • Backups are automatic, Never worry about the safety of your data. Some software like Quickbooks even collects extra money for managing backups of their offline version. Can you imagine taking a backup of your data every day? Online software like Accounter does do it. It can restore your data back to previous day, in the event of server crash or hardware failure.
  • Access the data on mobiles and Tablets. Offline software can not do this.

Disadvantages of Online Software over Offline Software

Well, as usual all above advantages comes with some disadvantages. And here they are..

  • Can not use when Internet is down. But how many of us really live with net off?
  • Do need to trust the data in the hands of other people. (even if they are experts, some people do worry about it)

I am not able to find any other disadvantage than the above two. If you do know, share your views with me.

Accounter 1.0.3 released

Finally we are happy to announce the general availability of v1.0.3 of Accounter. This version features many performance improvements and lots of bug fixes.

This version also allows us to identify user problems easily and help them when we get support issues.

We apologize for the downtime while releasing this version. From now onwards our expected downtime for upgrading to new version will be less than 5 min.

Accounter 1.0.2 released

We are happy to announce the live release of Accounter 1.0.2.

Here are the some of the major features and bug fixes.

  • Support for generic tax system that can be used for every country.
  • Support for adding Accounts and Products individually in transactions.
  • Preferences for Tax per details line or Per transaction.
  • Ability to track transactions per location/store etc.
  • Using classes to classify transactions.
  • Support 1099 forms for US companies.
  • Allow Paid Tax tracking in Vendor transactions(Required for VAT)
  • Enhanced Company Setup wizard
  • More than 20 different Industry Types to start with for creating accounts
  • And more than 200+ small bug fixes.

Accounter v1.0.0.4 released

We are happy to announce the release of v1.0.0.4 of Accounter.

  • Optimized system with around 200% speed increase from previous version.
  • Reduced resource usage with more than 50% reduction in download size.
  • Reduced round trips to server for various operations.

Other than these visible changes, system is now ready to support further set of changes which we are planning in next coming versions.

We have also happy to announce that there will be two releases each week. This makes sure that our software is bug free and customers go all the benefits of great feature which we are adding.
